about langzaam leven

Calm you keeplooking at

There is already enough asking for attention. Langzaam Leven is about attention for what surrounds you. For colour, light, material and things that are not only beautiful, but do something to a room.

Langzaam Leven isthe world of Els Schram

What comes together in Langzaam Leven now did not begin in a studio. It has long been there in the way Els Schram looks at colour, houses, gardens, materials and the things around her.

A lifetime of looking, making and collecting

Els has always made, collected and composed. In fashion, as a craft teacher, among old finds from France and Belgium, and later in the houses and gardens she shaped. The form changed, her eye stayed the same: for natural colours, weathered materials, good light and things that do not have to be perfect.

Looking until it is right

Els prefers to begin without a fixed plan. Often with something simple: a colour she feels like that day. The work then comes into being as she makes it. She adds, takes away, leaves something lying and looks again.

Composition, colour, light and natural materials are what she holds on to. Not by fixed rules, but on feeling. Until it is right. And above all: knowing when to stop.

When the composition, the colour and the light are in balance, it feels right.

Art tolive with

For Els, art does not have to be complicated, grand or distant. A work can simply be something you like looking at every day. Something that adds colour, makes a corner warmer, or makes a room a little more your own.

That is why Langzaam Leven exists: to give original works an obvious place in daily life. Not on a pedestal, but among the furniture, books, plants and people already there. Special, but never out of reach.
